Never underestimate a woman’s fury! We’re listing down some of the fiercest fighters to grace the Shonen genre – check them out below!
Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tail)
First up on our list is no other than S-Class mage, Erza Scarlet. As part of the Fairy Tail guild, Erza showed her prowess as both a highly-skilled warrior and tactician. With here Requip and Sword magic skills, Erza’s able to summon different sets of armor and swords.
But more than her magical skills, what sets Erza as a firm contender is her battle experience – no matter the foe, she is sure to have something up her sleeve.
Shihouin Yoruichi (Bleach)
Speaking of battle prowess, Bleach’s Shihouin Yoruichi is skilled enough to even go into battle barehanded. As a former captain in the Shinigami forces, Yoruichi not only has the skills to take down Hollows, she also has a keen sense of knowing the best steps to take when going up against opponents.
She may not look the part, but Yoruichi is mature and has a high level of intelligence in knowing what’s behind the scenes when it comes to matters in the Soul Society.
Hinata Hyuuga (Naruto)
From being a really shy student to transforming to a very powerful (and respected) ninja, Hinata Hyuuga has both the talent and the willpower to match up to anyone. Always composed, Hinata’s most powerful trait is that she is more than willing to sacrifice herself for her team.
When pushed to the limit (and especially when it concerns her loved ones and family), you may want to step back – Hinata is more than capable to tear apart competition (and considering she’s Naruto’s wife, you are sure that the Hokage’s partner has the power to beat anyone!).
Mereoleona Vermillion (Black Clover)
Never underestimate this noblewoman. The fierce and fiery captain (well, her brother’s the captain, but everyone sees her as the one in power because of her ferocity) of the Crimson Lion, Mereoleona Vermillion’s hostile nature can also be seen in her fighting style.
With a high affinity in dealing with Mana (she has been exposed to this, since she’s always out in the wild), she can sense and control Mana to her benefit. Her Grimoire contains fire-based magic (a given, concerning her House), which she utilizes to the fullest during fights. But more than her magic, Mereoleona’s massive strength is more than enough to overwhelm opponents!
Although not a popular choice (but please, do yourself a favor and read/watch Seirei no Moribito!), Balsa Yonsa proves to be a force to be reckoned with mainly with her ingenuity and calm take on fights. A fearsome spear wielder, Balsa’s most striking fighting characteristic is the way she gauges her opponent’s intentions. A survivalist, she is more than capable to get through the harshest conditions in the wilderness!
No matter the battlefield, the Major will make it through. A cybernetic wonder and field commander of the diverse and lethal Public Security Section 9, Motoko Kusanagi brings about both physical and technological prowess into the fray. With physical strength, high military tactics intelligence, specialized firearms performance, and god-level hacking skills, Motoko has more than enough tools to break down all sorts of enemies.
If you’re up against the titans, you would need a certain set of skills to dispatch them off. And as Shingeki no Kyojin shows, it really isn’t easy killing one! But Mikasa Ackerman proves otherwise. Able to seemingly bring down even the largest titans, Mikasa brings some hard-cutting style in this grim series! Also, it isn’t only the titans – Mikasa can basically beat anyone in the field, given her natural state to just be a badass!
Everyone fears the Terrible Tornado – and for good reason! As one of the highest ranking heroes, Tatsumaki’s psychic skills are more than a match for even Dragon-level monsters. On more than one occasion, this Esper has turned the tides for humans, by simply using her powers to take apart massive monsters apart.
Fullmetal Alchemist has a large roster of female characters that could have made the list. But one lady that stands out is none other than Izumi Curtis. As the teacher of the series’ protagonists, Izumi’s unconventional way in teaching alchemy brought a deeper sense of using the brothers’ powers.
Also, when the need arises, Izumi is more than ready to send people flying with her excellent martial arts!
In a series where firearms matter (after all, there are zombies all around!), Saeko Busujima stands out with her weapon of choice. Sporting a katana as a way to make use of her excellent swordsmanship, this fine lady is more than eye candy. In fact, when things go south, you can rely on Saeko to slash an escape path out!
Strength does not necessarily equate to physical prowess – just check out Bulma! A genius (daughter of the series’ Capsule Corp. inventor!), Bulma has all sorts of gadgets to help her both explore and defeat beasts alike! Her quick wits helped her get out of tight spot in more than one situation! Also, as mother to the Saiyan Trunks, you know that this woman is a behemoth of a human!
Probably humankind’s finest example of a god-level martial artist, Genkai’s physical strength matches well with her her supernatural moves.
As a teacher and mentor to not only the protagonist, Yusuke, but also to the fallen warriors of the first monster tournament, Genkai has also some great mentorship and leadership skills! Respected in both the Spirit World and on Earth, what we have here may just be the best human to walk the planet!
And there we have it, folks. A fine sampling of some of the best female warriors to appear on Shonen (and other genres) anime and manga. These ladies do not only know a thing or two in kicking ass – they also bring a sense of style and purpose in battles and the like. Do you have any other character you’d like to be part of the list?
