Anime isn’t just about amazing characters, captivating plotlines, and wonderful art. Food also comes into the picture in these great shows! Let us list down some of most tastiest dishes showcased in some shows:

Onigiri

It’s a humble staple, but Onigiri may far be the most common food type to appear in all sorts of anime. Popularly known as a rice ball, Onigiri’s simple and humble ingredients and preparation (at its most basic form, it’s just rice and seaweed) also makes it a hit among all sorts of characters.

A somehow weird story attached to the Onigiri can be seen in Pokemon – early screenings of this show in America actually dubbed this food as sandwiches! Backlash then ensued from diehard fans, which then pushed the Pokemon Company to change it to the accepted rice balls name! Nevertheless, open your eyes and try to spot some onigiri the next time you watch your favorite anime – there’s a high chance it’ll make an appearance!

One of the most popular dishes in Japan is also a favorite among some of the best anime characters. Ramen, essentially broth and noodles, is a heartwarming dishes enjoyed by all. Mainly because it can be prepared in several ways, ramen can actually suit anyone’s distinct taste. A popular appearance of this dish can be seen in Naruto, where several ninjas would often convene and enjoy a warm ramen soup after a long and hard mission!

Ever wondered what those skewered treats your favorite anime character gobbles up? Wonder no more – it’s called Yaki Dango! Commonly seen in festival scenes (or, that memorable part in Samurai Champloo when Jin and Mugen eat these treats), yaki dango are actually mochi rolled into balls then grilled to perfection. These balls can also be prepared in different ways, mainly with an assortment of sauces or coated in a particular flavor. Whatever the case, these are some of the best snacks seen in anime (and in real life!)!

Another popular festival food seen in anime shows is the yummy Takoyaki. Essentially a batter of wheat flour shaped into balls, these treats are filled with all sorts of ingredients (the most common choice would be octopus). Topped with bonito, veggies, and some special sauces, then you’re now ready for a taste explosion like no other!

Takoyaki is actually one of the snacks to enjoy – in fact, its popularity resulted in having an anime focused on the food itself (Takoyaki Mantoman!)!

Considered to be one of Japan’s best comfort food, Omurice tops the list as a blend of Western and Eastern cuisines! The simple preparation of egg and fried rice, topped with some yummy ketchup is a filling meal enjoyed by many. Nice to eat on almost any sort of occasion (Gantz O had one, with Kato’s brother preparing it for dinner; and of course, the nice meal during a rainy day in the great Garden of Words), omurice is truly a winning dish!

Another fine mixture of cuisine from different cultures, the popular Japanese curry rice is also a favorite in all sorts of anime shows. At its most basic form, this dish is made out of rice, curry, potatoes, carrots, and a choice of either beef, chicken, or pork. Seeing how popular this dish is in Japan, the excellent cooking anime Shokugeki no Soma actually dedicated an arc for it!

Tamagoyaki

Similar to the Onigiri and Ramen entries above, Tamagoyaki is another common food staple that is simple yet delightful in taste. Essentially rolled omelette, tamagoyaki is usually served as a side dish. Yet its simple preparation and presentation is an alluring feat, with almost all anime set in urban settings would have this food shown!

Speaking more about meals, nothing may compare in the amazing taste of the delicious Katsudon. This dish is a deep-fried celebration of pork cutlet, rice, and egg. Simple, right? But you cannot deny just how amazing this dish tastes! In fact, the popular ice skating anime, Yuri!!! on Ice showcases this dish regularly!

Uniquely Japan, these raw fish dishes are exquisitely prepared – and taste really good as well! Some of the best sushi are made by masters, who delicately sharpen their knives and choose only premium ingredients when serving these meals. At its most standard form, sushi is raw seafood with specially prepared rice. This food is often seen in anime scenes where royalty or rich characters are enjoying it!

Enjoy a wonderful dessert after eating any of the dishes in this list! The Japanese parfait are cool treats made out of ice cream, mochi, fruits, and a whole assortment of toppings that comes into mind! Sweet and cute to the eyes, these desserts are eye candy in anime shows that feature them!

Ever wonder what that fish-shaped treat is in the wonderful family anime, Mirai? Taiyaki, essentially a pancake shaped like a fish, is a common festival food in Japan. Baked to perfection, Taiyaki also comes in several fillings such as red bean paste and chocolate. It’s a sweet delight that will make you smile!

Hungry? Go for a heavy meal! Yakiniku is essentially grilled meat served skewered in sticks. Essentially the Japanese form of barbeque, yakiniku meals match really well with some yummy teriyaki sauce.

Among the many wonderful bread showcased in the funny cooking show, Yakitate!! Japan, the humble Melonpan may be one of the most memorable ones! Essentially bread shaped like a melon fruit, melonpan actually comes in a wide variety of flavors. Crispy on the outside and creamy in the inside, this is one amazing bread that should definitely be tried by all!

These food types all play around on how visually appealing they are, while at the same time, retaining some really amazing flavor for anyone to enjoy!
